Okay, so I lied...

I posted that we would be sharing the logo soon, but alas, I lied.

A short explanation: I am a creative person, but, my creativity has not translated at all to computer graphics. A year ago, I paid $100 for a logo I will never use. I can, with paint or markers, or pencil, in a minute come up with the perfect logo. Put me in front of a computer, where I am forced to choose someone elses ideas, colors, and drawings, and you can forget it. It's never quite right, not exactly what I wanted.

So, my daughter who is 17 and the true heart and soul of SmartyPants and exactly like me, has been doodling amazing and fun stuff since she could hold a pencil. She "gets" SmartyPants, shares a brain with me, and I love her style, so...she's created our logo, in the good old fashioned manner of drawing it, and then painting it. I absolutely LOVE it.

So often I am torn to "fit in" the business world. I see channel letter signage, and think I should proabably have that, it's easy to see, and it lends credibility to a business, as in, I paid a bunch of $$ for this sign, I'm sticking around. But ya know, it occured to me...people LOVE SmartyPants and SmartyPants is me...quirky, unconventional, not always fitting in.

Very soon, a bright, clever, and cool sign will grace the front of SmartyPants, and you'll see why I won't conform to the biz world, or settle for some computer graphic I found! I'll post a pic as soon as it's done.

In the meantime, here are some photos of the shop...sigh! It's pretty much a disaster, closing up shop 1 doesn't leave much time for creating shop 2. Lord knows if I'm not out of my current location by Feb. 1, my lovely landlord will charge me for the entire month, therefore, I must stay focused, and keep packing up the original shop.

See the spotlights? I'm super excited about that!

Here are my son Josh on the ladder, 6 foot 4 inches tall at age 13, he's a great worker, and darling daughter's boyfriend, Trent trying to remove the flocked wallpaper...

These are "The Teds" my husband and father (who happen to share the same name) removing a half wall.

Darling dauter Ashley, my little artist takes time out of her busy basketball schedule to help out at the shop

Both daughers, Ashley on the left, and Carmen on the right are a huge part of SmartyPants. They work the shop, everyone loves them, but more importantly, they inspire me to try new things, and think outside of the box.

One week later...

Lots of work is getting done at the new SmartyPants shop. You know the saying, it has to get worse before it gets better? Well, that's kinda how it feels about now!
Remember that lovely green wallpaper? Turns out it was adhered to the bare drywall, it's really not coming off. A slight dillema, but I have complete confidence in my construction "crew"

which consists of my dad and husband!
We have finally decided on colors:

Slightly Sapphire
Cherry Chocolate
Global Purple
Deep Amazon
Everything in me says to paint the whole shop a shiney white, but this is a teen shop, and my teen advisors pulled up their nose at every pastel, bright, and shiney thing I tried to sell them, so deep jewel tones it is. We do have white slatwall, so it won't be as dark as you'd think.

Next post will reveal the new logo (hopefully I'll figure out how to upload it by then). It's been a challenge, but the outcome is very cool, so check back!

SmartyPants~Teen Resale is moving!

Hello All!

The purpose of this blog is to let consignors, customers and friends of SmartyPants watch the progress as we set up our new DeMotte, Indiana location.

A little background: For three years, SmartyPants has enjoyed great success at our Roselawn location. There has always been great "buzz" surrounding the shop, last year when we stopped carrying kids clothes and focused on becoming a teen shop, carrying brands like Hollister, Abercrombie, Seven jeans etc. things have gone crazy.

The new DeMotte shop is located on N. Halleck Street, right next to Boundary Waters Restaurant. As a side note, this is one of the nicest restaurants in the area, great food, good service and a nice relaxing rustic environment.

Check out the new shop in it's untouched state!

Do you love the paneling? Turns out it's covering up multiple layers of wall paper! My favorite was an avacado green floral velvet flocked...almost worth preserving!

Keep checking back for updated photos and information on the new location!
